It all started from a small point. So are the glasses. So do we.
Glasses were not born directly into a frame with aesthetic lenses. The glasses were born from a...bowl of water.
Exact.
Seneca, the philosopher and valued advisor to Emperor Nero, discovered firsthand the problem that prevented him from reading - poor eyesight. So he took a glass bowl, filled it with water and placed it in front of the pages he was reading, thus creating the much-desired magnifying glass effect.
Do we think of such things today?
After the incident of Seneca, the inventive people of the year 1000 created a circle of glass, called reading stone. From here things started to evolve.
But did sunglasses also appear then?
Yes. It seems that Emperor Nero's period was indeed a golden one.
Nero was hyper sensitive to sunlight, making it much harder for him to watch gladiator fights and judge them correctly. So he took a chipped piece of emerald (the green we now use in photochromic lenses) put it in front of his eyes and lo! – the first pair of sunglasses.
Until we get to the frames that sit firmly on our face, at Yuniku technology which makes this whole process much more precise – the lenses have been worn in the hand for a long time during their use.
However, the 20th century made the pair of glasses the favorite accessory.
By the early 1940s, sunglasses became mainstream fashion. Movie stars and mainly public figures used this accessory as a statement to hide behind. They were thus able to offer a mysterious, chic and powerful air.
Let's not forget Clark Kent who used the glasses to hide his true identity. No one knew him as a superhero.
Although large, sumptuous glasses were the main fashion, things started to change towards the beginning of the 90s. This legendary decade transformed wild and popular fashion into affordable sophistication. Both eyeglasses and sunglasses were no longer just a fashion accessory – they had become a real gem.
It's the perfect time when we can make a 180-degree turn and stop thinking about the burden of wearing glasses. Let's create a new personality with a jewel like a pair of glasses at hand.
